So, from today I have started a new section on my blog – Food Facts. With all my food knowledge in and around, I attempt to present fascinating food stories about different products, cuisines and dishes. And here it is my 1st post – Nutella

One in four hazelnuts end up in Nutella!

Wow! Nutella is so popular, 25% of all hazelnuts end up in a jar! And the recipe varies from country to country as the exact recipe for Nutella is a closely guarded secret. The delicious hazelnut cream is manufactured by the Italian company Ferraro and was first introduced in 1964.

The product became so popular that so much so that Sara Rosso, a famous American food blogger decided to take their love of Nutella to the next level. In 2007 she created a worldwide day of celebration dedicated to the product. Thus, every year February 5 is a day for eating Nutella, sharing Nutella recipes and memories, which in turn also caused different variations of many dessert recipes using Nutella. Nutella Cheesecake, Nutella Milkshake, Nutella Coffee, Nutella crepes and waffles, you name it and you would find endless recipes online.

Nutella is so popular that to commemorate Nutella’s 50th anniversary in 2014, the Italian Postal Service created a Nutella-themed stamp, emblazoned with the brand’s signature jar of hazelnut goodness.  Wow! Interesting! Isn’t it?
