Watermelon Strawberry Agua Fresca

Agua Fresca (Spanish for ‘fresh water’) is a refreshing, fruit-infused drink that is served throughout Mexico. Agua Fresca can be made with virtually any fruit and combination of flavours is unlimited. Be it Mexican Tacos, Italian Pasta or Indian Chat, this is an excellent add-on to your breakfast, brunch or summer dinner! I like serving it chill so I usually make couple of hours in advance. However, if you are making just before serving, add a couple of ice cubes for a summer cool refreshing drink.

I made this classic Mexican Fresh Fruit Drink with fresh watermelon cubes and strawberries which are blended with mint, lime and sugar. These goody ingredients work well for your body, skin and mood too. It is an easy-to-make drink which is quite nourishing, hydrating and refreshing too.

Here is the quick recipe –

  • 1 Cup ripe strawberries
  • 1 Cup of watermelon cubes
  • 1 small bunch of mint
  • 2 Tbsp Lime Juice
  • 3 Tbsp Sugar

Method –

  • Wash and chop strawberries and watermelon and blend it well.
  • Add lime juice, sugar and mint (Sugar and lime can be adjusted depending on the sweetness of strawberries) and blend until smooth.
  • Pour in a pitcher or jug and refrigerate for 2 hours before serving

Notes –

  • Many like to strain the drink for a smooth juice to get rid of pulp and seeds. But personally, I like it a little thick to retain all the vitamins of the fruits.
  • Water is also added in some versions of agua fresca. As I added watermelon, there was no need to add water at all. (Watermelon is better addition than water anyway)
  • Honey can be a good substitute for sugar and it will also add some more flavour variation to the drink itself.
