How our minds are associated with train journeys! The thrill of visiting a different/new place, enjoying a break and savoring some mouth-watering delicacies at famous railway stations. That’s the beauty of Indian Train Journeys! From Nagpur station’s famous Haldiram Stall to Kanda Poha at Ratnam Station, from Chole Bhature at Jalandhar Station to Vada Pav at Karjat Railway Station, From Rava Dosa at Chennai Railway Station to Shegaon Kachori at Shegaon, Budhana. Every food item carries a different kind of legacy which has its own appeal, specialty and taste.

Of all Shegaon Kachori enjoys its own unique popularity. Known for its fine balance of spices, this famous snack originated in Shegaon, a town in Buldhana district, Maharashtra. It was sold at a railway station stall post partition and the exclusivity of the kachori made trains mandatory stop at this station. It is extremely famous in Vidharbha Region, Maharashtra however in the last few years, the kachori has not just restricted to this particular section, it has traveled to many parts of Maharashtra and the country.

There have been many variations in the recipe since its existence, but the charm of this Indian Spicy Snack from Maharashtra doesn’t stop to entice us. This spicy stuffing of cooked mixture of gram flour, garlic, green chilies, coriander and fennel seeds and other spices in fine flour dough (maida puri) served with fried green chilies has gained ISO Certification too.

And as the weather plays its own trick here in London, I have tried this recipe on a dull rainy day, and believe me what a delight. The crunchiness of the outer layer, spiciness of the masala and the crumbly texture of the filling was impeccable. Usually, kachoris and samosas are served with tamarind and coriander chutney, but I just love this as it is.
