Dip it in chocolate, make a delicious compote or add to Pimm’s! Strawberry is one of the versatile, appealing and favorite fruits for many of us! Traditionally, the first fruit to ripen every spring brings a lot more interesting fun facts on the table.
Besides being the members of the rose family (Oh, didn’t know that), strawberries were used to treat depression, fever, sore throats by Ancient Romans. Well, don’t know much about other illnesses, it definitely perks up your mood, blame it on its sweetness, color or texture.
As believed in France, strawberries are an aphrodisiac, as they are served to newlyweds at traditional wedding breakfasts in the form of a creamy sweet soup (Ooooh La La!). Among many, I found this interesting – Belgium has a museum dedicated to strawberries – Le Musée de la Fraise, from jam, body wash to squash and beer! You get everything.
Rome, France, Belgium… What’s more?
And to top the charts, the fascinating fact is strawberries aren’t true berries, like blueberries or even grapes. Technically, a berry has its seeds on the inside, but this is the only fruit that wear their seeds on the outside of an average of 200 of them. No wonder it only takes one bite to get seeds stuck in your teeth!
